Solemn hymn to nature and ode to slowness
Barefoot in the cool dew of an already sun-drenched morning, driven by a specific intention, Sylvie picks roses, one by one, with quartz crystals. «The flower is picked when it is ready to be picked, at the height of its bloom, at its optimal potential for transformation, at the ideal hour and day dictated by the position of the stars.».
While harvesting involves mindfulness, attention and rigor, following the biodynamic calendar, the preparation of oils, tinctures, incenses and flower remedies praises slowness. The plants are sometimes distilled in rainwater gathered on a stormy night, charged with nitrogen and electromagnetic properties, sometimes in dew water, gathered at the spring full moon before sunrise, kept in a glass demijohn. For twenty-one days, or even up to thirty days, they will infuse in oils in the sun and in the shade, according to a sun-moon rhythm. «The spirit of the plant infuses».
Sylvie is gathering flowers. There is the caress of the wind, the soft velvet of the petals, the song of the world whispering its secrets. «Everything in the universe is a wave,» she explains. It is the crowning glory of summer, fulfilment. With her soul on her lips, her whole being vibrates. A silent prayer. She is whole, poised and serene, her state of consciousness harmonised with that of the flower.
A calling
To get to this point, Sylvie has followed a long process of academic, personal and professional development. Years of training, hermetic reading, initiatory journeys and quests. Totally invested in her universe, on the fringes of the mysterious, the sacred and the magic of the Living.
The calling was strong. «At eight years old, I already saw myself in a laboratory, surrounded by glassware and stills. I was fascinated by nature. I always dreamed of having a spiritual master. I started concocting all kinds of products with plants: spirits, old medicinal wines, natural remedies to treat my children, and cosmetics.».
Sylvie became an herbalist, then a herbal practitioner. She worked in a clinic for many years. She also discovered a flair for passing on her passion, first to children, perhaps more genuine, then to older audiences, teaching anthroposophical botany, the design of medicinal, edible and aromatic plant gardens based on the principles of sacred geometry, and the transformation of mineral and plant matter. For over two decades, she has been creating absolutely unique skincare products using ancestral manufacturing methods, in harmony with nature.
It was a meeting with a French alchemist in 1999 that was to seal her calling. «I hung on his every word. He was mind-blowing. It was truly the spark that lit the flame of alchemy in my heart; since then, it has never gone out. I prepared myself for several years, blossoming from within in order to be able to honour the beauty and perfection of the Living. One must be able to raise one's consciousness, with all humility and solemnity, in reverence to the laws of Nature, to be worthy of practising alchemy.».
The quest for the quintessence
To manage to draw the maximum potential from plants, Sylvie proceeds in several stages, separating the different parts in multiple ways. She purifies them, then reunites them, magnified, in order to achieve the ultimate degree of perfection of the matter. A true labour of love, or of an alchemist. Spagyrics at its best, like a vibrational medicine. Sylvie has managed to perfect an ancestral art, plant alchemy, a combination of chemistry and botany wrapped in a particular aura, an incantatory je-ne-sais-quoi. «In front of my still, I hear notes with every drop that falls.».
This is not a matter of esotericism, however, but of an extraordinary knowledge of the living world, an unprecedented ability to transform nature according to very precise rules. Sylvie spent a long time working in isolation in her laboratory, her cathedral. «My spagyrical products carry a high frequency, a high level of purity. Before working, I create a sacred space to vibrate in harmony with what is there. It is a place of alchemy and rectification, but also of contemplation. In short, a place from which true co-creations emerge. That explains why my cosmetics have a profound effect on beings, and why they enhance both outer and inner beauty as much.».
High-end cosmetology
In her range Rose d’or, there is twenty-four-carat liquid gold and over nine rose extracts: its hydrosol, its essential oil, its absolute, its leaf cell extracts, and extracts of its buds and petals. Blended together, they are the very quintessence of the rose.
Sylvie put everything aside to dedicate herself entirely to her toil. She had help setting up an online shop and a brand image that reflects who she is. Her training courses arouse curiosity and wonder on both sides of the Atlantic. Today, more than half of her clientele is located on the Old Continent, where the principles of alchemy, which are better known, took root as early as the Middle Ages.
While it is difficult to approach her manufacturing methods, almost to the point of being indescribable, it can be said of Sylvie Gargiulo that she is an enlightened entrepreneur, at the service of something greater than herself. In a world in search of bearings and a return to nature, where the holistic vision of health takes on meaning more than ever, the meticulous and inspired work of this great herbalist and alchemist cannot fail to arouse admiration and reverence.
Truly, beauty is everywhere, and it has always been there. Only, there are times when we struggle to see it because of the turmoil within our inner world. May we find a certain harmony once again and contemplate, at its true worth, the beautiful spectacle of life. ~ Nathy LaBel
