Wim Lybaert, known as a Flemish programme maker and kitchen gardener, wrote a new book about kitchen gardening in the kitchen garden of Hex.
In an interview with the local Limburg television, Wim explains how he found the inspiration in Hex to write a follow-up to his first vegetable garden book from nearly 10 years ago.
In 2013 Wim Lybaert published the book ‘De moestuin volgens Wim’ in collaboration with Laurence Machiels, which is still a Flemish bestseller. In 2016, following the successful television series ‘Het Goeie Leven’, he released the book of the same name about vegetable gardening, cooking, fire, flavour, and taking the time to enjoy life. In recent years, most of us have known him as the likeable bus driver from the television series ‘De Columbus’, with which he took ‘the good life’ on a journey across Europe.
In the Covid year of 2021, Wim spent a whole year staying every week in the old post office, opposite the church in Heks; in the gardener's house, a stone's throw from the historic kitchen garden of Hex Castle. For a whole year, he shared life and work in the old kitchen garden. It set him thinking once again about the essence of the good life, about living to the rhythm of the seasons, the relationships between man and nature, the work of generations, and the precarious ecological balance of the present moment.
