Han and Jay started growing herbs 20 years ago. By now, their range has grown to more than 200 varieties. Via their farm and farm shop next to the Kluis van Vrijhern (Hoeselt) they sell plants, dried blossom tea, and artisanal jams, as well as local products from about 10 other producers.

Basella alba var. purpurea

(Ceylon spinach, Indian spinach, Malabar spinach, vine spinach)

Basella is a vine that is widespread in South Asia and is best known as Malabar spinach or climbing spinach. After it has developed a root system while still a young plant, the shoots will grow rapidly (up to 5 cm per day) and reach a height of up to 4 metres. The fleshy leaves of both the white- and purple-leaved varieties are widely used as a leafy vegetable after brief cooking and are suitable for salads or stir-fries.

Tulbaghia violacea = Wild garlic

Long leaves with a mild garlic flavour that do not linger on the breath. Society garlic (also known as pink agapanthus = incorrect), sweet garlic T. violacea: leaves are eaten as a substitute for chives and garlic. In South Africa, the leaves and flowers are eaten as a leafy vegetable like spinach or for seasoning meat and potatoes. Tulbaghia violacea is used locally as an herbal remedy/medicine to treat various ailments. Due to the increasing evidence of its potential as an antifungal agent, large-scale commercialisation is expected.

It remains above all a stunning (tub) plant, a feast for the eyes and the palate!
