AGASTACHE, EUCALYPTUS, ECHINACEA, E.A. PRAIRIE PLANTS

What started as a hobby in 2003, Tom Devriendt has since grown into a cosy nursery in a beautiful setting where personal advice is of paramount importance.

He specialises mainly in summer bloomers (with an extensive range of Agastache, Echinacea, Penstemon and Sedum) and Eucalyptuses.
Agastache, Echinacea (single-flowered varieties), Penstemon, Sedum; these are all plants that are frequently visited by bees and bumblebees. They are genuine nectar-bearing plants. These plants require well-drained soil and plenty of sun, and they flower throughout the summer and sometimes even into early autumn. So you’ll be able to enjoy them for a long time. At Hex, Tom Devriendt mainly stocks: Agastache, Eucalyptus, Penstemon and Echinacea.

The range at the nursery is of course much more extensive (including columbines) – Aquilegia -in the spring) and is also frequented by bees and bumblebees.
Another specialty of Tom's is Eucalypts. These trees from distant Australia are the favourite food of koalas. More than 20 species are offered at the nursery. Several of these can tolerate frost down to -15°C or colder and are therefore certainly worth trying for a sheltered spot in the garden. Others can be kept as patio plants (pink, red and yellow flowering). They love plenty of sun – less so the (north-)easterly wind in winter, are evergreen and through their elegant ornamental value and fragrance they give a southern touch to a garden or patio. After a number of years, Eucalypts can begin to flower, and bees and bumblebees are crazy about the nectar-bearing flowers.
